Asian Start-Ups Soaring

Dec 22 2009 | 1:42pm ET

New Asian hedge funds have proven among the best bets in the hedge fund industry this year.

The average start-up hedge fund in Asia, excluding Japan, has returned 22% this year, Eurekahedge reports. But most investors will have missed out on the big returns, as the 27 new Asian hedge funds have raised only $3.06 billion.

The overall Eurekahedge Hedge Fund Index is up about 18% this year.

Twelve Japanese start-ups have returned an average of just 6.5%.
