Clarium Exec. Goes Hollywood

Dec 23 2009 | 1:43pm ET

Investing in the movie industry hasn’t proven a boon for hedge funds, but that isn’t stopping Jack Selby.

The former PayPal executive, who is now a managing director of PayPal founder Peter Thiel’s Clarium Capital, has founded a digital production and distribution company with the auspicious name of Horsethief Pictures.

The company’s first film will be a Western, graphic-novel style, called “The Last Rites of Ransom Pride,” featuring country music star Dwight Yoakam and “Beverly Hills 90210” veteran Jason Priestly.

As befits Horsethief’s status as a digital film company, “Last Rites” is to be released online next spring.

In addition to his own money, Selby got backing for Horsethief from private equity sources, according to published reports.
