SAC Fundraiser Joins Healthcare Hedge Fund

Feb 10 2010 | 10:59am ET

SAC Capital Advisors’ former fundraiser-in-chief has joined healthcare hedge fund shop Visium Asset Management.

Jason Huemer was named president of the New York-based firm, which has $1.6 billion in assets under management. The firm is preparing to launch a new multi-strategy fund on March 1, the same day its flagship long/short Visium Balanced Fund is to close to new investment, Hedge Fund Alert reports.

Huemer is also charged with leading an expansion of the firm, with plans to hire new portfolio managers.

Huemer joins Visium from Atlas Capital, a White Plains, N.Y.-based global macro and emerging markets hedge fund firm that he joined in January 2009 as a principal. Prior to that, he spent four years at SAC as head of marketing, helping to raise some $6 billion for the hedge fund giant. He also spent a year as chief operating officer of SAC’s Sigma Capital unit.

Before joining SAC, Huemer served as COO of York Capital and managed his own hedge fund seeder, Synthesis Funds.
