Fund of hedge funds shop Mesirow Advanced Strategies has named its head of portfolio research to the new post of director of manager research.

Mark Kulpins will now focus on manager research and selection, and has joined Mesirow’s investment committee. He has worked at the $12.5 billion firm since 2004.

“Mark has been a key player on a team that has truly set the bar for delivering excellence in manager evaluation, portfolio construction and risk management,” CEO Marty Kaplan said.

Kulpins’ portfolio construction responsibilities have been taken over by Steve Vogt, the firm’s chief investment officer.
