Aug 5 2010 | 11:51am ET

Barclays Wealth has made a quartet of top hires to bolster its alternative investments business.

The wealth-management division of the British bank named Boudewijn Jansen as head of private equity origination and Sarah Newman as head of hedge fund origination. In addition, Jamie Murray will head its alternative investments distribution team, while Emily Smart joins as a hedge fund specialist under Murray.

The hires are part of a major expansion push by Barclays Wealth.

“The talent we have been able to attract and will continue to attract is evidence of the aspirations we have to grow and enhance our proposition,” Thomas Fekete, head of investment products for Europe, the Middle East and Africa said.

Jansen comes to Barclays from HSBC Private Bank, where he was global head of private equity. Newman previously worked at the equity derivatives and fund-linked products group at Credit Suisse Group. Murray joins from public relations firm Broadgate Mainland, and Smart joins from UBS.
