Ex-Hedge Fund Lawyer Crushed In N.Y. Congressional Primary

Sep 15 2010 | 2:46am ET

Despite a well-funded and highly-publicized campaign, former hedge fund lawyer Reshma Saujani was trounced in yesterday’s Democratic primary for Congress.

Saujani, who worked at Fortress Investment Group before resigning to run in New York’s 14th Congressional District, received just 19% of the vote. Rep. Carolyn Maloney, who has represented the district, which includes Manhattan’s Upper East Side and parts of Queens, for nearly two decades, coasted with 81% of the vote.

Saujani has pledged to run again in the next election cycle.
