Eureka: Hedge Funds Enjoy Best September Ever

Last month was the best September for hedge funds on record, according to Eurekahedge.

The Eurekahedge Hedge Fund Index returned 3.45% on the month, it's second-best month in more than seven years. The index is up 5.15% on the year.

Long/short hedge funds were the strongest strategy in September, rising 4.3% on the month, followed by event-driven funds at 3.8%.

Regionally, Greater Cina hedge funds did best, rising more than 7% on the month, followed by Asia ex-Japan funds at 6%, with emerging markets funds adding 4.2%. Japan hedge funds, by contrast, gained just 0.7% on the month.

Eastern European and Russia funds were up 3.9%, while North America funds rose 3.7%.
