Greenlight Capital returned 3.4% last month, according to a reinsurer led by Greenlight's David Einhorn.
Greenlight Capital Re, which invests almost all its premiums with New York-based Greenlight, said its portfolio is up 7.8% on the year. The firm identified Greenlight's largest long positions as Arkema, CIT Group, Ensco, gold and Vodafone Group.
Nearing double-digits for the year is especially impressive for the $7 billion hedge fund, which found itself in the red as recently as July, until a 4.1% jump in August brought it back into the black.
