Feb 1 2011 | 5:09am ET

Hedge fund Finisterre Capital has hired its first in-house lawyer.

Ursula Newman started at the London-based firm earlier this month. As general counsel, she is charged with building the hedge fund’s internal legal systems, as well as overseeing regulatory demands and outside legal counsel.

Most recently, Newman was head of legal for Deutsche Bank spin-off Altima Partners. She worked at Deutsche Bank before moving to HSBC.

“I am here to provide Finisterre with the legal coverage they need going forward,” she said.

Finisterre has some US$1.4 billion in assets under management.
