Halcyon Founder Slifka Dead At 81

Halcyon Asset Management founder Alan Slifka has died at the age of 81.

Slifka died at his Los Angeles home on Friday after a battle with cancer. He spent more than 30 years with L.F. Rothschild & Co. before setting up Halcyon/Alan B. Slifka Management in 1981. The firm now manages some $10 billion.

In addition to founding the hedge fund, Slifka was an active philanthropist, working to promote ties between Israeli Jews and Arabs. He was also the founding chairman of the Big Apple Circus.

A memorial service will be held in New York on April 10.
