Soccer fans can now combine their love of the beautiful game with investing in hedge funds thanks to a recently-launched vehicle.
The London Nominees Football Fund officially debuted last week, investing in football-related commercial businesses. The fund, which targets returns in excess of 20% per year, has already made its first investments, and is now seeking a "limited number of additional private investors" before an eventual listing on an exchange within three years.
To attract those footie-loving investors, the London-based hedge fund has named two legends of the game to lead its team: Manchester United's former "Captain Marvel," Bryan Robson and Brazilian World Cup hero Carlos Alberto Torres. The fund also features former Liverpool Football Club star Steve McMahon and veterans of the sport such as Jim Smith, Peter Reid and Steve Darby.
The Football Fund aims to invest in soccer-related businesses with a three-to-five year track record, with a focus on Asia.
"Football in Asia is expanding in terms of both wealth and popularity at a rapid rate and the growth potential for companies here is huge," CEO Andrew Leppard told HedgeCo.net. "With our business expertise and the legendary status of our football team we can help to drive these companies forward, firstly in Asia and then throughout the globe."
