André Tonkin, formerly a market actuary with Old Mutual Corporate, has joined the capital introduction team at Peregrine Holdings.
Tonkin, who was responsible for customized investment solutions for institutions at Old Mutual will focus on South African and international institutions at Peregrine. Prior to his time at Old Mutual, he worked at Fifth Quadrant, reports Hedgeweek.
“We are excited to have André join our team as the South African institutional market starts to react positively to the opportunities which the hedge fund industry offers now that Regulation 28 has recognized this important asset class,” said Leila Kuhlenthal, head of Peregrine Capital introduction. “Peregrine’s capital introduction unit was established in 2009 to serve as a central portal for investors into the group and its associate companies."
The Peregrine group is a leading alternative asset management firm in South Africa and Europe with about US$11.7 billion under management as of February 2011.
