State Street Global Advisors has won the first-ever hedge fund mandate awarded by the Kansas City police pension plan.

The $775 million Kansas City Police Employees' Retirement System picked SSgA's SSARIS fund of hedge fund strategies, HFMWeek reports. The pension has been seeking a fund of funds since November, with consultancy DeMarche assisting.

SSARIS won out over Evanston Capital Management and Mesirow Financial, which also offered presentations to the KCPERS board.
