Commodities trading giant Glencore International has hired a hedge fund manager to serve as its new investor relations officer.

Paul Smith will handle Glencore's global IR needs, Bloomberg News reports. He joins the firm from Marshall Wace Asset Management, where he spent six years covering Glencore's specialities of mining and basic materials as an analyst and portfolio manager.

Smith succeeds Nicholas Bias, who left Glencore in May.
