Freestone Seeds Third Point Vet's Healthcare Fund

Aug 2 2011 | 7:35am ET

Third Point alumnus Brigette Roberts’ YYC Capital Management has launched a fund with an anchor investment from Freestone Capital Management.

YYC began managing money for Freestone on the Topwater managed account platform—a multi-manager joint venture between Topwater Capital Partners and Freestone Capital Management—in August 2009.

The platform allows Topwater, Freestone and other strategic partners to identify, monitor, and evaluate managers for investment. Topwater and Freestone say they expect to make additional allocations to platform managers that consistently demonstrate superior risk-adjusted returns.

Roberts launched the healthcare long/short equity strategy in 2009. Prior to founding YYC, Roberts was a partner at Third Point where she managed a $350 million healthcare portfolio. Before that, she managed a $100 million healthcare portfolio at DKR Saturn.
