Ex-Jana Managers Begin Fundraising Campaign For Event-Driven Fund

A hedge fund founded two years ago by a pair of Jana Partners veterans has opened its doors to outside investors.

New York-based O-CAP Management has been running its event-driven strategy—in onshore and offshore versions—with internal capital since September 2009. Now, it's eyeing global allocators with hopes of raising about $1 billion, the funds' capacity.

O-CAP Partners and O-CAP Offshore Fund are opportunistic funds that seek out catalyst-rich prospects, HFMWeek reports. The funds do not use leverage and invest primarily in stocks, pre-initial public offering companies, distressed debt and structured financing.

The firm was founded by Jana's Michael Olshan and Jared Sturdivant. The former focused on hard-asset investment and special situations at the activist hedge fund and the latter on special situations and event-driven value investing.
