GAM Launches Southeast Asia Fund

Sep 30 2011 | 11:16am ET

GAM Holding has launched a new fund focused on Southeast Asia, which the firm calls "the new powerhouse for Asia."

The Star Emerging Asia Equity Fund is helmed by top manager Michael Lai, who runs GAM's Star China Equity Fund, and Camille Vergara. The new fund, however, will steer clear of China, focusing instead on countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

Lai and Vergara will focus on mid-cap stocks in such "overlooked" markets. The new fund will feature a concentrated portfolio of 35 to 45 stocks.
