Hedge fund EJF Capital is joining its peers in turning east.

The Virginia-based firm, headed by Freidman Billings Ramsey founder Emanuel Friedman, has launched a Greater China hedge fund, HFMWeek reports. The debut follows the return to EJF of portfolio manager Victor Li.

Li, who formerly managed EJF's Healthcare and Life Sciences funds, spent the past two years at China Southern Fund Management. At China Southern, he managed China's first qualified domestic institutional investor mutual fund.
