Monsoon To Launch Offshore Version Of New Fund

Dec 16 2011 | 4:10am ET

Asia-focused hedge fund Monsoon Capital Management is preparing an offshore version of its systematic strategy.

The new fund will be the third version of the strategy; the first was launched in the U.S. in August and a UCITS III-compliant version followed in September. The Cayman Islands-domiciled version will debut next month, HFMWeek reports.

The fund, which currently manages $35 million across its two versions, is a trend-following strategy that invests in Asian equity markets.

“We launched the UCITS fund first because many investors prefer or require UCITS, such as European institutions,” Monsoon’s Gautam Prakash told HFM. “But we realized that we need an offshore version for full access to the Asian market.”
