Money manager RS Investments has hired a top Renaissance Technologies executive to serve as its new CEO.
Matthew Scanlan had served as president and CEO of RenTech subsidiary Renaissance Institutional Management, the $18 billion hedge fund's institutional investment business. He'll now lead San Francisco-based RS, which is owned by Guardian Life Insurance and manages more than $20 billion.
Scanlan succeeds the retiring Terry Otton.
"RS is well-positioned today as a result of the firm's well-established culture of investment excellence and its unwavering commitment to serving clients," Scanlan said. "I intend to maintain this focus which guiding RS toward continued responsible growth."
Prior to joining RenTech, Scanlan led Barclays Global Investors' institutional business and was a senior portfolio manager at Northern Trust.
