Law firm Macfarlanes has boosted its hedge fund practice in a big way, luring D Harris + Co.'s team and founder.

D Harris' eight-member hedge fund group has joined Macfarlanes. In addition, D Harris founder and namesake Daniel Harris will serve as a consultant.

"Regulatory pressure globally means that hedge funds are of great strategic significance for investment banking and other financial services clients," Macfarlanes senior partner Charles Martin said. "We have been looking to expand our practice and this represents a great opportunity to do so rather more rapidly than would have been possible organically."

Macfarlanes' eight new layers specialize in swaps, prime brokerage and synthetic financing.
