Otkritie Capital Offers Access to Ukraine’s UX Index

Otkritie Capital, the investment banking arm of Russia’s Otkritie Financial Corporation, is offering institutional investors access to Ukraine’s UX Index Futures.

Otkritie claims Ukrainian Index Futures, launched by the country’s exchange (UX) in May 2010, have become the most liquid investment and “the only true way to hedge macro,” with 30% of the market’s capitalization and 85% of the total trading volume as of January this year. Key industries include heavy machinery (25%), energy (18%) and telecommunications (16%).

Otkritie says no global investment bank offers institutional investors access to the Ukrainian Index Futures, with “only a handful of local brokers providing a limited version to regional clients.” Otkritie had its first client successfully trade this asset class on January 16.
