Jersey-based Asset manager Ashburton has hired Derry Pickford, former chief economist at Sloane Robinson.

Pickford will serve as a macro analyst at Ashburton, advising its multi-asset and fixed-income funds. He will focus on emerging and global markets.

"The current macro environment can be confusing and frustrating for investors, but this is our type of climate, and there are some great opportunities," Ashburton asset allocation chief Tristan Hanson said. "Derry will play an active role in identifying and exploiting such opportunities."

After leaving London-based Sloane Robinson, Pickford worked as an independent macro consultant.
