Private equity firm 3i has added former Goldman Sachs partner Willen Mesdag to its board as a non-executive director.

The listed p.e. firm said at its annual board meeting today that Mesdag will help the firm expand its footprint outside the U.K. “Will brings a wide and highly relevant range of experience to 3i as it internationalizes its business,” Chairwoman Sarah Hogg said.

Mesdag spent 21 years at Goldman, including stints heading the capital markets, asset securitization and European financial institutions groups. He left in 2001 to found Los Angeles-based hedge fund Red Mountain Capital Partners.
