Taussig Plans Reinsurance Platform For Hedge Funds

Oct 3 2012 | 1:00pm ET

As hedge funds race into the reinsurance industry, one firm is offering a helping hand.

Taussig Capital plans to create a platform to help hedge funds launch reinsurance arms. Such vehicles offer hedge funds an ever-growing base of permanent capital, CEO Joe Taussig told Opalesque.

Hedge funds are especially adept at running reinsurers due to their risk-management expertise. But the barriers to entry are high, beginning with the fact that "you can't have a small reinsurer," Taussig said.

The Multi-Strat Re platform will seek to help hedge funds clear those hurdles.
