South Korean Hedge Fund Industry Blossoms

Having eased and streamlined its hedge fund regulations, South Korea is reaping the benefits.

The country's nascent hedge fund industry—its first local products launched a year ago this month—has grown sevenfold during that first year, Korean Financial Services Commission said. There are now 19 hedge funds in South Korea, it said.

The FSC added that long/short equity is the most popular strategy among Korea's hedge funds, although firms are planning to expand into arbitrage and event-driven offerings.
