The Man Group's FRM Capital Advisors hedge fund seeding business will invest in six-month old hedge fund helmed by a Highbridge Capital Management and Citadel Investment Group veteran.
FRM will make a "significant investment" in Hong Kong-based Arena Capital Management. The fund is headed by Toby Bartlett and focuses on Japan and other northern Asia stocks.
FRM did not specify how much it would invest in Bartlett's fund.
"We see this both as an opportunity to be able to generate alpha in what is traditionally a less-researched market by hedge funds where greater inefficiencies will allow managers that do in depth analysis to create an edge," FRM's seeding chief, Patric de Gentile Williams, said.
Bartlett founded Arena last year. He was formerly an Asian stock manager at Highbridge and, prior to that, served as a Japan-focused stock manager at Citadel.
The Arena seed is FRM's first investment since Man acquired it in May.
