BlueCrest Hires BofA MBS Trader

BlueCrest Capital Management has nabbed an asset-backed securities trader from DW Investment Management.

Shaun Heelan will focus on ABS and commercial mortgage-backed securities at the London hedge fund, Bloomberg News reports. The portfolio manager will be based in New York and will oversee securitized-debt investments alongside John McNiff.

Heelan, like McNiff, is a Bank of America veteran.

BlueCrest, which has US$35 billion in assets under management, is trying to build an "investment-bank quality" trading team, and is focused especially on mortgage debt.

In addition to DW, which manages money exclusively for Brevan Howard Asset Management, and BofA, Heelan formerly worked at Merrill Lynch.
