May 28 2013 | 12:08pm ET

BlackRock has added UBS' Daniel Whitestone to boost its small- and mid-cap stock team.

Whitestone will serve as an analyst for BlackRock's UK Emerging Companies hedge fund initially. He was head of U.K. small- and mid-cap sales at UBS, and formerly worked at Noble & Co. and Accenture.

"Dan is an exceptional talent in the U.K. small- and mid-cap market and our growing asset base has given us the opportunity to hire him and expand further the analytical resources we can use to identify and invest in smaller organizations which are capable of superior long-term growth and returns to our clients," new boss Richard Plackett said.

Plackett's team manages £4.8 billion.
