Greenlight Capital bounced back from an April loss to post a 2.9% gain in May.

Last month's jump puts the hedge fund up 8.6% on the year, Reuters reports, about half the return of the Standard & Poor's 500 Index over the same period.

Greenlight took a hit in April on its major gold holdings, and said last month that it had increased its stake in Apple Inc.
