Greenlight Capital surged into double-digits in the third quarter, turning a profit on just about every long bet in its book.

The New York-based hedge fund told clients it earned 4.3% in the third quarter and that it is up 11.8% on the year. "Virtually every long position" Greenlight holds was profitable on the quarter, it said.

The firm also said it had added to its short bet against Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and a "medium-sized" long position in Osram Licht.
