Hedge fund are on a record-breaking roll, when it comes to total industry assets.

For the fifth-straight quarter, the figure hit an all-time high, Hedge Fund Research reports. Globally, hedge funds now manage $2.51 trillion, with the industry growing by nearly $100 billion in the third quarter.

Most of that growth was due to performance gains. But $23 billion came from net inflows.

Fixed-income relative-value arbitrage funds have been the biggest beneficiaries of those this year, taking in $20.5 billion.
