Chelsea Clinton, Hedge-Fund Manager Husband Expected First Child

Apr 21 2014 | 10:41am ET

The daughter of former President Bill Clinton and her hedge-fund manager husband are expecting their first child.

Chelsea Clinton announced her pregnancy at a forum on women’s issues in New York Thursday, alongside her mother, former Secretary of State and potential presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Chelsea Clinton is married to Marc Mezvinsky, a former Goldman Sachs banker who now runs a hedge fund, Eaglevale Partners. Mezvinsky was also present for the announcement.

“Marc and I are very excited that we have our first child arriving later this year, and I certainly feel all the better—whether it’s a girl or a boy—that she or he will grow up in a world full of so many strong young female leaders, so thank you for inspiring me and thank you for inspiring future generations, including the one that we’ll be lucky enough to welcome into our family later this year,” Chelsea Clinton said. “I just hope that I will be as good a mom to my child, and hopefully children, as my mom was to me.”

Chelsea Clinton is the only child of the former president and Secretary of State. She suggested last week that she might follow her parents into politics, possibly as mayor of New York City or for Senate from her (and her parents’) adopted home state.
