Jul 3 2014 | 7:18am ET

Former H.J. Heinz CEO William Johnson has joined private-equity firm Advent International as an operating partner.

In his new post, Johnson will advise the p.e. firm on possible investments in consumer packaged goods and food.

“Bill is one of the premier executives in the consumer packaged goods industry,” Advent managing director Jeff Case said. “Bill’s expertise in consumer products and food will complement our extensive experience in the retail space and further strengthen our ability to source new investments and drive value creation in our portfolio.”

Johnson stepped down as Heinz CEO last year after the company’s purchase by p.e. firm 3G Capital and Berkshire Hathaway. He led the company for 15 years.
