Denver-based liquid alternatives shop 361 Capital has tapped Clifford Stanton for the newly created post of director of portfolio solutions and product management.

Stanton joins 361 Capital from Envestnet where he was the chief research officer, co-chairing Envestnet’s investment committee and managing the firm’s research department and asset-allocation product development.

Prior to Envestnet, Stanton served as CIO at Prima Capital, which was acquired by Envestnet in 2012. Prior to Prima, he was the director of research for Innovest Portfolio Solutions, and before that he was a senior investment analyst at INVESCO Private Capital. He also served as director of research for Denver-based Portfolio Management Consultants. Stanton began his career at Fidelity Investments.

In his new role at 361, Stanton will lead the portfolio solutions group, providing asset allocation guidance, fund analysis and portfolio research to the firm’s investment advisor clients and prospects. He will also lead the firm’s alternative investments education, market research and product development efforts.

“We created this position to better serve investment advisors and their goal of using more alternative investments in their portfolios,” said Tom Florence, CEO of 361 Capital, in a statement. “Cliff has many years of experience working directly with investment advisors. He brings proven experience designing and building asset allocation models using all types of alternative investments. Being a former CIO and director of research for two major investment firms, we were fortunate to attract him and are excited to have him on the team.”

Founded in 2001, 361 Capital specializes in managed futures, long/short equity, multi-strategy, and global macro strategies, accessible through mutual funds, limited partnerships, and separate accounts.
