A Russia-focused hedge fund set up last year has hired a former colleague of its founders to lead its research effort.

Vladimir Postolovsky was named director and head of research at London-based Gemsstock, he told Bloomberg News. He joins the firm from UBS’ hedge-fund arm, UBS O’Connor, where he has served as a portfolio manager for the past seven years.

Prior to that, Postolovsky served as co-head of research in Moscow for UBS’ Russian investment bank, UBS Brunswick, alongside Gemsstock co-founder Al Breach.

Breach established Gemsstock last year with UBS and Moore Capital Management veteran Darren Read, and UFG Asset Management’s Florian Fenner.
