Preqin: Hedge Funds Back in the Black in January

Hedge funds started 2015 with a slight gain of 0.07% in January, according to the Preqin All-Strategies Hedge Fund benchmark.

The slight bump is positive news for the hedge fund industry, which is coming off a difficult 2014. 

Leading the way, CTAs posted 3.10% returns in January, their highest level since 2011. Over the last 12-months, CTAs have provided roling returns of 14.72% in the year to January 2015. 

Meanwhile, UCITS also had a good start to the year, returning 1.21%. This is the highest returns since October 2013.

Funds of hedge funds posted their third-straight positive month for the first time since December 2013. The fund returned 0.4% for the month.

Emerging markets funds posted a fifth consecutive monthly loss, dipping 1.21%. EM funds are now down  3.03% over the past six months.
