Sachem Head Capital Earns "Emerging Manager of the Year" Award

Sachem Head Capital Management won the “Emerging Manager of the Year Award,” as well as Best Event-Driven Fund at the third annual Global Emerging Manager Awards (GEMA) last week.

The event featured nine awards in different fund categories, and recognized and honored the Best Emerging Manager of 2014. The event was presented by S&P Capital IQ, New Legacy Group, and Opal Financial Group.

By category, the winners of the 2014 Global Emerging Manager Awards are: 

  • Credit: Varadero Master Fund, New York, NY
  • Event-Driven: Sachem Head Capital Management, New York, NY
  • Global Macro: ROW Asset Management Diversified Fund, Newport Beach, CA
  • Long/Short Equity: Venator Founders Fund Class A, Toronto, Canada
  • Multi-Strategy & Arbitrage: Malachite Capital Partners, New York, NY
  • Asia-Focused: Black Crane Asia Opportunities Fund, Hong Kong
  • Emerging Markets-Focused: Chambers Street Capital Management, Chambers Street Global Fund, New York, NY
  • Europe-Focused: Ben Oldman Special Situations Fund, Madrid, Spain
  • Global-Focused: Sphera Global Healthcare Fund, Tel Aviv, Israel
  • 2014 Manager of the Year: Sachem Head Capital Management, New York, NY

 

The annual judging process relied on an impartial committee of experts.

Firms nominated had to meet the following criteria: 

  • Have a track record of less than three years with any amount of AUM, or 3-10 year track record as long as assets are below $500MM;
  • Have a minimum of $10mn AUM;
  • Have/Employ an independent auditor with a minimum of one completed audit (if longer than one-year track record);
  • Have/Employ a third-party administrator; and,
  • File a monthly return report, gross and net of all fees and expenses.


Finalists were judged on the following criteria:

  • Infrastructure Quality;
  • Investor Friendliness;
  • Upcapture/Downcapture spread vs. manager benchmark;
  • Fund performance over a rolling 12 month time period;
  • Sortino Ratio; and,
  • Omega Ratio.
