The HFRU Hedge Fund Composite Index, which measures UCITS compliant hedge funds, rose 0.72% in March and +4.59% in the first quarter of 2015.

The Q1/15 result is the best quarterly performance since index inception, according to Hedge Fund Research, the index provider.

Equity funds were the strongest during the period, rising 0.94% in March and 5.87% for the quarter, also the best quarterly performance since inception. European equities have soared in 2015 as the ECB institutes quantitative easing in a bid to combat deflationary tendencies in the Eurozone.

Macro funds were up 0.61% in March and 4.30% for the quarter as the dollar surged against the euro. Relative Value Arbitrage funds and Event-Driven funds gained 0.50% and 0.15%, respectively, in March.

The HFRU Composite Index tracks more than 500 UCITS-compliant funds managing at least $10 million or more than a six-month track record. The measure rebalances quarterly and was created in 2008, according to the company’s website.
