UCITS Hedge Fund Strategy Index Up 0.36% in March, 2.47% YTD

The UCITS HFS Index booked a third straight month of gains in March, gaining 0.36%. The index is now up 2.47% for the year to date, compared with 1.62% in 2014.

More than 65% of the funds tracked by the index reported profits during the month, according to index provider 20n20.com AG. In terms of sub-strategies, ten of the twelve tracked by the index finished in the green, lead by CTA, up 0.8%, and Long/Short Equity, up 0.68%.

Interestingly, Fixed Income and Macro strategies booked 0.48% and 0.40%, respectively, for the month, while Event Driven, one of the top performers in February, gained only 0.15%.

The two strategies that finished the month with a loss were Commodities, down 1.04%, and Currency, down 0.32%. Leading the pack so far this year is CTA, up 4.26% YTD, and Global Macro and Long/Short Equity, both up 4.05%.

The UCITS HFS Index Series is the first index family that tracks all UCITS funds using hedge fund strategies. Compiled by Swiss-based 2n20.com AG, it consists of all UCITS III compliant funds applying absolute return strategies with more than €10 million under management, offer at least weekly liquidity, and have reported numbers for more than one month. 

Index tracking funds, long-only and 130/30 strategies are excluded. The index is equally weighted and adjusts on a quarterly basis.
