Safanad Limited has hired Craig Kahler as director of the company’s private equity efforts. He will be based in New York and report to Safanad’s head of private equity, Ziad Dannaoui.

Kahler comes to Safanad from BlueMountain Capital Management, where he was a portfolio manager for private capital. Beforehand, he was with H.I.G. Capital as VP and Principal in Miami and New York. Kahler has also held positions at Willis Stein and Credit Suisse First Boston.

“We are delighted to welcome Craig to Safanad,” noted Dannaoui in a statement. “With his broad experience sourcing and structuring investments, we are confident Craig will make a significant contribution to Safanad, as we continue building the foundation of an enduring principal investment firm.”

Based in New York and Dubai, Safanad was founded in 2009 by Saudi Arabian executive Kamal Bahamdan. It invests in real estate, private equity and public markets, normally as a principal investor, and uses a proprietary “weather map” approach to quantitatively select investments. The company’s investment focus is primarily within the healthcare, education, financial services and retail sectors.
