GSAM Launches Global Long/Short Equity UCITS Sub-Fund

Goldman Sachs Asset Management is offering a new high-conviction global equity portfolio to European clients.

Managed by the company’s Goldman Sachs Investment Strategies team (GSIS), the Global Equity Long Short Portfolio is based on a fundamental, bottom-up approach and structured as a new sub-fund of the firm’s UCITS-compliant, Luxembourg-domiciled Goldman Sachs Funds SICAV, according to a statement.

GSIS is led by Raanan Agus and Kenneth Eberts and comprises fifty investment professionals across four regions. “We seek to identify secular changes in industries, markets and consumer behavior that will positively or negatively impact companies,” said Agus in the statement. “We are typically looking for investment opportunities with uncorrelated risk/return profiles and identifiable catalysts.”

Goldman Sachs Asset Management, which is well known for its work with institutional and high net worth investors, believes the new portfolio brings their expertise and track record to a retail investing client base outside the U.S. “In the current market environment there is significant client demand to protect downside risk,” said Nick Phillips, head of Goldman Sachs Asset Management's international third party distribution. "Our clients are looking for alternative ways to invest in equities, with lower correlation to markets.”

The fund is available to institutional and retail clients in the U.K. and across Europe.

Goldman Sachs Asset Management manages or advises on more than $1 trillion in assets, primarily for pension plans, sovereign wealth funds, central banks, financial institutions, individuals and family offices.
