Former PIMCO equities specialist Simon Peters will join Algebris Investments as a senior portfolio manager for public equity strategies.

Peters will be responsible for growing Algebris’s equity efforts and focus on investments in Europe, Middle East and Africa. He will manage the company’s flagship Algebris Global Financial Fund and will report to the company’s founding partner and chief executive, Davide Serra, according to a press release.

U.K.-based Algebris has approximately $2.5 billion under management and has a focus on the global financial sector. The Algebris Global Financials Fund is up 29.8% for the year, according to a company statement.

Peters will “play a pivotal role in the development of our flagship and new funds,” said Serra in the release. “He is a highly regarded global financial sector expert and he has demonstrated an ability to consistently identify strong stock ideas within the sector.”

Peters left PIMCO, which he joined in August 2014, several weeks ago as part of the well-known bond manager’s re-examination of its equity strategies. Before joining PIMCO, he held roles at Nomura, Henderson Global Investors and BNP Paribas.
