Boston-based RA Capital Management has announced the appointment of three executives as the firm expands its institutional operations team.

The three strategic hires include Christopher Wolf as CFO, Derek Meisner as general counsel and CCO, and Nick McGrath as corporate counsel and compliance officer. They join the firm’s growing team of 45 associates, which includes an internal group of 18 Ph.D.-credentialed researchers that help facilitate the firm’s technical and clinical research efforts.

Prior to joining RA Capital, Wolf was CFO at HighVista Strategies for more than 10 years, manager of Investment & Treasury Operations at Williams College, and CFO at Abrams Capital.

Meisner was general counsel and CCO for a Boston-based investment adviser spun out of Harvard Management Company, was a partner at the law firm of K&L Gates and a branch chief in the Division of Enforcement of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Nick McGrath was a corporate associate at K&L Gates and Hemenway & Barnes, and served as in-house corporate counsel at a Boston-based private equity firm.

“The hire of these top-tier team members is an important moment in the evolution of RA Capital,” said Michael Calore, RA Capital’s director of investor relations, in a statement. “We’re continually focused on building out a broad-based institutional organization to capitalize on the emerging, long-term prospects of investing in development stage biotech.

"The addition of Christopher, Derek, and Nick to our team advances our ability to provide our limited partners with the legal, compliance, and operations expertise necessary to support RA Capital as a leading healthcare investment institution,” he continued.

RA Capital is a sophisticated life sciences think-tank wrapped in a fund that finances private, IPO and follow-on financings for a portfolio of early-stage biotech companies. The company’s crossover fund, offered to institutional investors, has more than $1 billion in AUM.
