Calamos Investments, a global investment management firm, has announced a definitive agreement to acquire global long/short manager Phineus Partners, an alternative asset specialist based in San Francisco.

Terms were not disclosed. The transaction is expected to close in the coming weeks.

Founded in 2002 by Michael Grant, Phineus is a fundamentally-driven investment firm that, like Calamos, employs a blend of bottom-up and top-down considerations. The firm seeks superior risk-adjusted returns through a variety of market conditions, with an equal concern for appreciation and capital preservation.

It generally invests in publicly listed, global equities in knowledge-based industries, such as technology, communications and media, and to a lesser degree, healthcare, life sciences and financial services.

"We are pleased to welcome Michael and his team to Calamos Investments," said John Calamos, founder, CEO and global co-CIO Calamos Investments. "As one of the first entrants into the liquid alternative space more than twenty years ago, we continue to expand our presence in the space. Michael's strategy will be a welcome addition to our lineup."

Chicago-based Calamos Investments is a diversified global investment firm offering investment strategies including equity, fixed income, convertible and alternative investments. The firm managed more than $23 billion across separately managed portfolios, mutual funds, closed-end funds, private funds, an exchange traded fund and UCITS funds as of August 31, 2015.
