Paris-based BNP Paribas has named Frederic Janbon as head of the company’s asset management business, BNP Paribas Investment Partners.

Janbon succeeds Philippe Marchessaux, who integrated various asset management teams from ABN Amro AM, Fortis IM and BNP Paribas Investment Partners into a global-scale asset management business. Marchessaux will take on an as-yet unnamed new project within BNP Paribas.

Janbon will take up his new responsibilities on October 20, 2015. He will be responsible for accelerating the development of BNP Paribas Investment Partners into a benchmark player in institutional asset management and client service, according to the company. He brings more than 25 years of experience in financial markets to the post, serving in various management positions in the interest rate, derivatives and options markets, before being appointed global head of fixed income in 2005.

"BNP Paribas Investment Partners is a key business for the BNP Paribas Group, both in terms of serving our institutional clientele and providing savings & investment solutions to individual retail customers,” said BNP Paribas CEO Jean-Laurent Bonnafé in a press release. “This business is very much a part of our growth strategy, which focuses on developing businesses where we are able to achieve high performance in order to offer our clients the best products and services."

BNP Paribas Investment Partners offers asset management services to both institutional and private investors around the world. The company is active in 35 countries and had assets under management of €532 billion as of June 30, 2015.
