Highland Capital Management Hires Jones To Lead Institutional Products Business

Global alternatives company Highland Capital Management has hired former Goldman Sachs executive Terry Jones as president of its Institutional Products business. 

In his new role, Jones will report to James Dondero, co-founder and president of Highland Capital Management. He will be based at the firm’s headquarters in Dallas, TX.

Jones brings more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, according to a press release. Prior to joining Highland as a full-time employee, Mr. Jones served as Lead Director of the Highland Funds and also served on the boards of Genworth Life Insurance Company of New York, and the SEI AIC III, an administrative platform for alternative '40 act funds. 

His professional experience includes roles as President, Founder and CIO of Battersby Capital Management, and Global Head of the Relative Value and Event Driven Sectors of the Hedge Fund Strategies Group of Goldman Sachs where, as a portfolio manager, he managed approximately $8 billion in a fund of hedge funds. 

Jones will lead Highland's discussions with strategic institutional allocators to drive business development and complement Highland's broader institutional sales platform. In addition, he will be integral in aligning portfolio risk management across the Highland platform and optimizing Highland's risk management infrastructure with respect to identifying, assessing and mitigating applicable risks, according to the company.

"We expect Terry's leadership will enhance our risk adjusted performance and expedite client solutions in these increasingly complex markets," said Dondero.

Dallas-based Highland was founded in 1993 by by Dondero and Mark Okada. Together with its affiliates, the firm has approximately $21 billion in assets under management. The company specializes in credit strategies, such as credit hedge funds, long only funds and separate accounts, distressed and special situation private equity, and CLOs. Highland also offers alternative investments, including emerging markets, long/short equities, and natural resources.
