Cohen's Point72 Hires Former CS Equity Research Head Flannery

Point72 Asset Management has named Mark Flannery, formerly the head of Credit Suisse’s U.S. equity research group, as the new energy sector executive in the firm’s long/short equities business.

In his new role, Flannery will focus on energy stocks and supervise all energy portfolio managers and sector teams. For 17 years, he worked as a energy analyst in London, Hong Kong and New York before becoming Credit Suisse’s head of U.S. equity research in in 2009. Flannery will begin at Point72 on Nov. 2.

“He has worked in energy markets on three continents during his career and the perspective he brings will aid our global trading in energy,” said Point72 President Doug Haynes, according to a press release from the firm. “We are excited about the impact he will have on our long/short business.” 

Founded by billionaire hedge fund manager Steven A. Cohen, Point72 is the former SAC Capital and now manages the assets of its founder and eligible employees. It invests in discretionary long/short equities, quantitative and macro strategies. The firm manages approximately $11 billion and has offices in New York, London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Singapore.
