Fresh off its seeding deal with Prime Capital AG, NewAlpha Asset Management has hired former GLG Partners executive Driss Lamrani as the company’s global strategist.

Lamrani has close to fifteen years of professional experience in the financial sector. Formerly as advisor and deputy to GLG Partners Chief Investment Strategist, Driss forecasted monetary policy, political and geopolitical events and designed investment portfolios for GLG’s Global Macro and Emerging Markets Funds. He spent the beginning of his career as actuarial consultant, financial analyst and financial engineer for large institutions including Arthur Anderson, Credit Lyonnais Securities and Credit Suisse.

As global strategist, Lamrani will report directly to NewAlpha AM’s president, Antoine Rolland, according to a statement. He will be based in Paris and tasked with helping to make market predictions that guide portfolio construction.

“The common denominator so to speak to all our business lines is the underlying competitive advantage [of] emerging managers,” noted Rolland. “Driss’ experience is going to afford added value to our investors, portfolio construction being based on the sound market anticipations of an experienced global strategist.”

Founded in 2009, Paris-based NewAlpha is one of Europe’s leading incubators of alternative asset managers, selecting and financing companies in asset management, financial technology and services for investment managers. It has formed more than 60 strategic partnerships, invested more than €1 billion euros and allocated more than $500 million to investment management boutiques.
