Hedge funds recovered additional ground in April 2016, according to the latest reading of SS&C’s Hedge Fund Performance Index.

The measure rose returned 1.19% for the month, following a 0.90% rise in March and declines in both February and January.

The asset-weighted index flashes a monthly estimate of the gross aggregate performance of funds for which SS&C GlobeOp provides monthly administration services on its platform.

Meanwhile, the May reading of SS&C GlobeOp’s Capital Movement Index, which measures hedge fund flows, advanced 0.53%. Similar to its performance-focused counterpart, the index tracks monthly hedge fund subscriptions and redemptions administered by SS&C GlobeOp on the company’s platform, divided by the total assets under administration.

“Hedge funds saw positive net flows this past month, according to SS&C GlobeOp’s Capital Movement Index which gained 0.53% for May of 2016, compared to -1.18% in April,” said Bill Stone, chairman and CEO of SS&C Technologies, in a statement. “In terms of the year-over-year comparison, the 0.53% for May was down versus 0.86% for May of 2015, with both inflows and outflows coming in lower than a year ago.

“This is consistent with recent months’ net activity which has followed fairly normal seasonal patterns, but with generally lower levels of both inflows and outflows,” Stone added. “The moderate flow activity suggests investors are keeping their hedge fund allocations fairly constant despite unsettled market conditions.”

SS&C GlobeOp’s total assets under administration on the SS&C GlobeOp platform represent approximately 10% of the estimated assets currently invested in the hedge fund sector. Founded in 1986, the Windsor, CT-based firm provides investment and financial software-enabled services and software focused exclusively on the global financial services industry, providing services to more than 10,000 financial services organizations managing an aggregate $44 trillion in assets.
